I have room in my head

My life is very exciting. New information is constantly thrown at me. And no matter how old I get, I can usually pick them up. I have also mastered the computer, even though I was born at a time when people in this country knew nothing about computers and only mechanical typewriters reigned. Of course, in the process, I have slowly forgotten some things that were once stored in my head but have not been used for a long time. But still, at least bits and pieces of what I learned before are still there.

So I still remember the beginning of the biography of the socialist president, which I memorized in elementary school like everyone else some 40 years ago. In the same way, I remember what I was taught in life, sometimes in bits and pieces, sometimes in its entirety.

For example, I know what J. A. J. A. Komensky in exile, for example, i.e., “I cannot forget you, dear Czech and Moravian people, dear motherland, in my already perfect farewell to you”, I know the endings of oxides from “-ný” to “-ičelý”, Abel\’s commutative semigroups like, can say all the enumerated words, knows the pattern of adjectives and types of pronouns.

Then deny the spark promise. I know how to solve equations, I understand powers and square roots. I\’m pretty good at navigating a world map, and I\’ll list many countries and their capitals, both in their current form and the form they had 50 years ago.

My parents just wanted me to study and I wanted to please them or at least feel safe, so I did. And my head is still full of things that are of no use to me, but I don\’t complain. Because they don\’t take up space and they don\’t weigh my head down. They just sit somewhere in a drawer. And sometimes they are useful. At least for writing this article.

And if there is one thing I don\’t like, it is the many years of advocating that we not push too much useless stuff on our children and that they learn what they do not need in life I don\’t think that\’s a good idea, because I don\’t know what they need. Because you never know what they will need. And sometimes, when Google isn\’t handy, the kids are sadly dumber than my school dropouts.
