What is Cultural Heritage
|
We have probably all heard the term cultural heritage. We usually think of cultural heritage as something of historical significance, whether it is an object or a building. However, this is not always the case. The whole situation is rather more complex than we think.First, it is worth noting that there is a distinction between national and world heritage. The former refers to the history of a particular country and is associated with that country. For example, it is a building that is part of a country\’s historical events, played a role in those events, or was built by a world-renowned architect who was born and worked in that country.
This includes, for example, Charles Bridge.Secular includes objects that have had a significant impact on the history of not only one country, but the entire human race, or are exceptional worldwide. For example, the Pyramids of Giza would be the cultural heritage of Egypt.Of course, it is not only buildings and architecture that are included here. It also includes unique natural formations and phenomena, archaeological sites, and unusual natural phenomena. However, these are more likely to belong to a pool of countries and help to show the uniqueness of each country. But why are these so important? After all, we do not need them to live, nor do we benefit from them. They often hinder modernization and complicate transportation. So why are they considered so important that they must be protected internationally?
The reason is quite simple: they are memories of living history. They remind us of what our ancestors accomplished and what we can do. They also help us to avoid repeating the same mistakes we made in the past. Of course, that doesn\’t always work, but it certainly does more good than we think.
Therefore, we should learn about them, not condemn them. For in so doing, we will learn many interesting things that we would not have thought of before.
